Account Manager Jobs - Myths about Finding Account Manager Job Opportunities

Are you interested in becoming an account manager? If you are then you are not alone. Many people are looking towards available account manager jobs. Some of them make some rather unfortunate mistakes. Some of these mistakes can completely derail account manager careers.

What is the reason for this? Basically, they fall into the unfortunate trap of believing in myths. Yes, there are certain myths out there that confuse quite a number of people. It leads them to either not apply for a job or apply for it in the wrong way.

Yes, there are quite a bit of myths out there that some prescribe to. Such myths are not accurate yet they still permeate the industry. So, let's take a few steps here to dispel these myths and move things back to their proper track.

Probably the biggest myth that is most commonly promoted is that there are no jobs. Friends, there are always jobs out there. Whether you are seeking entry level or technical account manager jobs, you can find something. Someone always needs to hire help. This is true of all industries and it is true in the accounting world. If you are seeking account manager jobs you can take solace in the fact that such jobs can be found if you look hard enough.

Another myth would be that success in account manager careers is a numbers game. In other words, just keep applying for as many jobs as you can find and you will eventually land an offer. This is only a partially accurate assessment. The more technical account manager jobs you apply for the odds will be that you get an offer PROVIDED you have other necessary elements in place. You need the proper experience, the proper resume, the proper cover letter, and the proper approach in place. When vital elements are missing, the job search will not succeed no matter how much effort you put into it. That is why you cannot just look towards sending out an enormous number of resumes all at once and assume that this will work.

Speaking of resumes, you do not necessarily need to hire a professional service. Yes, it would be incredibly helpful to work with a professional service to put together a great resume. However, if you have the ability to craft your own excellent resume, you will not need to work with a professional service.

The best jobs are in the secret job market. This is a common myth surrounding almost all careers. Well, like most myths, such assessments are loosely based on facts and accuracy. There are unadvertised jobs and they are usually internal job listings a company may offer. Those hoping to fill technical account manager jobs will look internally first. However, not all technical account manager jobs or similar jobs are hidden or secret. You can apply for account manager jobs that are publically listed in a variety of classified venues. Granted, applying does not necessarily mean you will be hired but the chances of being hired do exist. So, don't fall for the myth that only the secret job market myth will work that so many others prescribe to.

So and so's book contains all the secret info you need to succeed with account manager careers. Okay, there are quite a number of excellent books out there on the market that do provide some helpful tips on how to get the most out of your job search and career. No one would say there are no excellent books out there. That said, those books (and DVDs) that claim supreme knowledge of how to land a job are often loaded with hyperbole. Some of them may even just present common information in a new presentation. There is nothing wrong with that but there is nothing new to be found with it either.

Many of the myths present regarding account manager careers are not outrageously false. Rather, they are simply slightly less than accurate. Such lapses in accuracy, no matter how minor, can prove very problematic when you are seeking a serious job offer. It is never easy to land a job. You can land a job, however, when you take the appropriate steps to ignore the traditional myths that can undermine the search for employment. Dismiss the myths. They do not have much value.
